As a regional chapter, our primary purpose is to work with the national organization, The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) "....to promote and integrate scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness,health and quality of life."
The primary goals of the SWACSM regional chapter are to :
- Introduce students to the national organization - The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) by including graduate and undergraduate students in regional committee activities and research.
- Provide professional and educational meetings in sports medicine and exercise science on an annual basis.
- Introduce non-member professionals (Exercise Scientists, Physical Therapists, Physicians, Nurses, Athletic Trainers, Aerobics and Dance Instructors, Personal Trainers, Fitness and Health Instructors) to SWACSM and the ACSM.
The Southwest Regional Chapter of The American College of Sports Medicine includes six states in its permanent charter granted in 1985.
- Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah.

Last October, Silvana Constantinescu (USC) and Sarah Kuzmiak (ASU) were selected as the Gail Butterfield and Norman James Student Research Award winners at the SWACSM annual meeting in Reno, NV. Click here to read the full update.

Join us on the Fume Blanc for a dinner cruise around the San Francisco Bay on Saturday, June 2. Enjoy an evening out in San Francisco as you cruise by AT&T Ball Park, under the Bay Bridge and along the San Francisco waterfront with views of Coit Tower, the Ferry Building, Pier 39, the Golden Gate Bridge and of course, Alcatraz Island. This is a great way to wrap up the ACSM 2012 meeting!
